DBSTI, Tezpur

director-dbsti

I am happy to present to you something about Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute (DBSTI) Tezpur. The first building foundation stone was laid in 2012 by and was inaugurated on 1 august 2014 and the second building block was inaugurated on 16 August 2015 by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, the Honorable Minister, Youth affairs, Government of India, who later became the Chief Minister of Assam and the new and the most beautiful hostel building is just completed in last year.

It is good to know that “Don Bosco” comes from “John Bosco” who was born in Turin, Italy in 1815. At the age of two, he lost his father and his mother Margaret brought him up.

Though poor, he was brought up in a rich value of love for God and love for others. As a small boy, he wanted to become a Catholic priest and after much financial struggles he managed to become a priest in 1841.

As a young priest he noticed suffering and misery in the lives of the youth especially the poor. Meaningless, aimless, jobless and hopelessness in lives of the youth of his time made him dedicate his life to the young. Soon he started loving and caring of those poor boys.

He started by teaching them to read and write, printing, book binding, repairing shoes etc. now it has grown to motor mechanics, electronics, schools, colleges, universities, street works and many other works. In short he opened all possible traits and empowering centres for youth. Now it has become a world wide reality.

Don Bosco Fathers, Brothers and collaborators are present in 134 countries of the world trying to help out the needy youth. DBSTI is one of the 1000 plus centres belonging to Salesians (Don Bosco society) which stands to help the poor and needy youth of the region.

According to the signs and needs of the region, the institute provides computer skills, music skills, language skills, skills to live in peace and harmony with each other etc.

Teachers training, Air hostess, hotel managements, youth personality development, time management and many other courses are offered in order to equip meet the job and life challenges.

The institution has good space for sports such as basketball, volley ball, and mini football, good space to walk around, lots of plants and flowers, a good spacious hall, classrooms with good desk and tables, conference halls, spacious dining halls and many other facilities are available.

Every evening, students have the possibility of show casing their talents through dances, songs, competitions, which are creatively animated by different teachers.

Public speaking and public appearance becomes the hall mark of the hostel students. “Skilling Youth and Transforming Lives” as the motto of the institute is, becomes the reality for those students who come here and stay for a considerable length of time.

I, Fr. Paul Rabha, the new director of the institute have a considerable amount of experiences of youth work both in north east India and in Europe especially in Italy. I was 11 years in Italy both studying and working with youth.

I also have done 3 years of Master degree on youth and pastoral care studies in Rome.

This makes me more confident in dealing with youth. Hope our institute can be some help and service to you.

All are welcome to do various courses or even to come and see.
We are here for you.

Fr. Paul Rabha, SDB
